EuroCarib is an importer and distributor of specialist building supplies in the Virgin Islands. Based on Tortola, Eurocarib provides services in the U.S. and British Virgin Islands and beyond.

Eurocarib is owned and operated by Stephen Cooper. Stephen is a professionally qualified English Building Surveyor with a lifetime of practical experience building and remodeling homes in Europe and the Caribbean. He has more than 25 years experience in the development and supply of specialist building products in Europe

The challenge is to build something that will last in this harsh environment. Building materials can be expensive so it makes sense to properly research the subject before purchasing. Eurocarib have been through this process many times and have a lot of experience to share. Here are some common examples of the difficulties presented by building in the Caribbean

The UV Index

 This measurable indicator describes the Caribbean region as "extreme", this means that products made of polymers will breakdown unless they have adequate quantities of UV stabilizers in the raw materials, for example UPVC windows extruded in for example Europe or Canada for use in those locations just won't work here.

Marine Environment

 Places with salt laden sea air will corrode metals. Even the best quality stainless steel will corrode in highly exposed locations. The shiny lacquer finishes on brass hardware quickly break down, pit and go green, and trying to acid strip lacquer from door bolts is not for the feint hearted!

Hurricanes

 It's not just about the material selection it's about how it's attached to the building structure. Did you know that wind speeds around external corners, eaves, verges or rakes and ridges dramatically increase requiring improved fastener specifications at these vulnerable positions?
