Hurricane Protection

Good hurricane protection begins with solid construction and the correct selection of materials. See our Hurricane Protection Basics for a discussion on building practices and hurricane-rated materials.

If your home has already been constructed without adequate hurricane protection , then there are four basic types of hurricane protection which can be subsequently installed, commonly used here in the Virgin Islands.

Traditional Shutters

Traditional shutters are used widely throughout the Caribbean and provide an attractive and decorative method of protecting doors and windows. Historically these have been made from wood, however this material can suffer from moisture absorbtion, often resulting in twisted and difficult to close shutters. Today we have modern alternative materials to avoid these problems. Read more.

Roller Shutters

Aluminium Roller Shutters have been widely used for many years, to provide both hurricane protection and security. Read more.

Hurricane Fabric

Hurricane Fabric is a practical and often less costly alternative to wood or aluminium shutters. Available with independant hurricane test certification, Fabric is a great way to improve your homes protection.  Read more.

Hurricane Resistant Glazing Films

When hit by a missile, ordinary glass treated with hurricane resistant glazing films may shatter, but will hold in place preventing storm driven wind and water into your home. Read more.
